EMPD intends to stop crime in its track

The aim is to reduce crime.

More than 300 people were searched, three illegal shebeens shut down and dagga and cocaine seized with one person arrested during a crime prevention drive by the EMPD and SAPS in Daveyton.

“A strong force of 98 SAPS Ekurhuleni Central Cluster and EMPD members descended on the hostel and cordoned off all its exits and entry points,” said EMPD spokesperson, Wilfred Kgasago.

“Large quantities of beer and cider bottles were confiscated from the illegal shebeens.”

The special operation was carried out on June 23, to reduce the high incidences of crime which has impacted the hostel and surrounding residences.

“Outer perimeter roadblocks were on Eiselen, Turton and Heald roads,” Kgasago explained.

“The objective was to arrest wanted suspects, perpetrators of any crime, stop-and-searches of suspicious persons and vehicles in search of drugs, illegal firearms, stolen vehicles and stolen property.

“The police intend to conduct operations of this nature periodically in and around the hostel until such time the crime levels are drastically brought down.”
