A 33-year-old woman was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for conspiracy to commit robbery at the Benoni Magistrate’s Court on June 4.

Gladies Morakana Masiu pleaded guilty to the charge.

On August 24, 2017, Masiu and three men posed as hitchhikers on Main Reef Road.

Benoni SAPS spokesperson, Capt Nomsa Sekele said the victim, who was driving a Chevrolet bakkie, stopped and offered them a lift.

“After driving about 500m, one of the men produced a firearm and commanded the victim to drive into the veld near the Rynsoord cemetery,” said Sekele.

“The victim was forced out of his vehicle and they tied his hands and feet.”

The three men and Masiu took the victim’s money and cellphone.

The spokesperson said the Benoni sector police members, who were on patrol around the area, spotted the suspect’s vehicle, went to investigate and they found Masiu inside.
