The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM) said they hope to open the Bunny Park by July 2019.
According to EMM spokesperson Themba Gadebe, all the bunnies in the park were sterilised.
This follows the article by the City Times which previously reported that the EMM did not have enough funds to complete the sterilisation.
When questioned by the City Times about the bunnies that are hopping around in the park, Gadebe repeated that all bunnies have been sterilised.
Phase two for the park should be completed by the end of June 2018 and phase three will commence from July 1.
Gadebe said the following are part of phase three:
• Ablution facilities
• Children’s play area
• Lapas
• Parking area
“The park will open on July 1 subject to the lawns and pastures being ready to be grazed and played on,” Gadebe explained.
Gadebe made mention that once the EMM is satisfied with the lawns and pastures, and after consultation with the NSPCA, veterinarians, ward councillor and ward committee will agree on which animals should be reintroduced.
