“Rescuers found that he had sustained various fractures and possible internal injuries,” Vermaak said.

“Once freed from underneath the truck, they were able to stabilise him and rush him to the Life Glynnwood Hospital for further medical care.”

The other boy who was also injured in the incident sustained only minor injuries.

“Paramedics treated him on the scene and later transported him to the same hospital,” Vermaak said.

According to Vermaak, bystanders explained to paramedics that one of the boys apparently tried to flag down a taxi when the truck swerved and collided with them.

“However, the exact circumstances surrounding the incident are not yet known,” he said.
