Lend a hand to Hospice East Rand

There are approximately six volunteers that care for the patients every week.

Hospice East Rand needs help to bring smiles to their patients every Wednesday for a social morning interaction.

“Daycare is for those adult patients who are ambulant and are able to become part of a morning of enjoyment filled with happiness and fun,” said Hospice East Rand liaison officer, Laura Kirsten.

“The patients are treated to a nutritious meal every week. These meals are supplied by churches and donors from Kempton Park and Benoni.

“The volunteers arrange entertainment when they can for the patients or provide craft classes for them.”

Recently, a group of ladies from ‘Together in Dance’, headed by Janet Vos, entertained the daycare group.

Because this service is provided for free, Sister Jenny Ford, a nursing sister at the daycare is requesting other churches or donors to assist with extra meals over the forthcoming months for the patients.

“They also need craft items and groceries to give to the patients,” Kirsten said.

“Sister Ford is also looking for volunteers with a special skill who could give interesting talks to the patients.”

Contact Ford on 082 657 1900 for further questions or to offer your assistance to the group.
