Water situation should have improved overnight

Mixed messages are filtering through regarding how long the water will still be off

Cable theft at the Rand Water pump station in the Vaal is the cause of the water supply interruption in parts of Benoni.

Although the Ekurhuleni metro said the cable theft has caused the water pressure to drop significantly, the City Times is aware that several suburbs, including Farrarmere, Northmead, Rynfield, Brentwood Park and Actonville, are without water.

The cables have since been replaced but due to the magnitude of the lost pressure, it was expected to improve gradually last night, said metro spokesperson Themba Gadebe.

“We are monitoring the situation and water tankers have been sent to the affected areas. Affected areas include Northmead and Actonville.

“We urge those who are affected to call our Call Centre on 0860 54 3000 to report this.”

Yesterday councillor Haseena Ismail reported via a community Whatsapp group that although the cable had been replaced and the pumps started again, it would take some time to fill as Rand Water supplies a big area.
