Since 1977, the International Councils of Museums (ICOM) has been celebrating International Museum Day on this date to raise awareness about the importance of museums.

The awareness also provides opportunities for researchers, educators, children and other visitors to understand the key roles of museums in preserving and promoting heritage and untold stories through exhibitions, workshops and similar events.

The theme for 2018 was “Hyperconnected Museums: New Approaches, New Publics”.

The Benoni Museum is also celebrating Africa Day on May 25 and invite the public to come along to hear the special talks or to take a walk through the museum from 9am to 4pm at 60 Elston Avenue.
