According to Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago, on Saturday around 11am the EMPD First Responder Unit (FRU) and SAPS Public Order Policing Unit (POPs) members received information about approximately 300 protesters barricading Eisellen Road in Daveyton with rocks and burning tyres.

“The law enforcers responded and persuaded the protesters to stop burning tyres and attend a meeting at the Daveyton Customer Care Centre (CCC) offices where councilors accompanied by the MMC for Human Settlement requested their audience,” Kgasago said.

“Fortunately, the protesters acceded to the request and their representatives met with the councilors.”

Kgasago said while the meeting proceeded, the officers cleared the road near Daveyton Mall to enable a free flow of traffic.

“The protesters dispersed peacefully after the meeting,” Kgasago said.
