Local resident creates adult colouring book

Celebrating women through colour

A world filled with colour is something Julie Fox said is therapeutic.

Being a qualified art teacher, Fox moved to the United Kingdom (UK) for 10 years before returning to South Africa.

“I found that there was a gap in the market for an adult colouring book,” she said.

The 40-page book, titled I’m Every Woman, has original images of various types of women.

Writing is therapeutic

“The emphasis is on women being more than just their appearance,” said Fox.

“I wanted to capture women in all aspects of their life. Every woman is beautiful and needs to be celebrated and embraced.”

Fox was diagnosed with bipolar disorder 20 years ago and was told she would have to be institutionalised.

“This was absolutely devastating because I had been teaching for a couple of years already,” she said.

“This affected my career choice and confidence.”

The Brentwood Park resident did not let her condition stop her from doing what she wanted to achieve.

This 45-year-old is thankful for her husband Trevor’s continuous support.

“He has been so supportive and I couldn’t have done it without his help,” she said.

“He has been paramount and instrumental in helping me achieve this goal.”

Describing herself as someone who can’t be silenced, Fox said she felt empowered to create this 40-page book.
