Farah Messi, an education student at the University of South Africa, said she wrote one poem per day for three months to fill her bundle.

The bundle is cleverly titled thexchild.

Messi explained the name was inspired by human rights activist and African-American Muslim minister Malcolm X.

She explained Malcolm X was previously known as Malcolm Little: “During the slave trade era in the USA, black people had to take the surnames of their owners, Malcolm crossed-out his surname with an ‘X’ and since then he was known as Malcolm X”.

She said it is also wordplay with the saying ‘X marks the spot’.

Messi said one of her friends, whom she only wants to be known as Dwijesh R, encouraged her to publish the bundle.

She admitted that she “didn’t believe she could do it”.

The bundle starts with poems of hurt but ends with healing.

“The progression of the poems is based on the process of my life,” she said.

Messi said her bundle was inspired by her younger sister, 15-year-old Taskeen Messi.

“She is my best friend and I often feel helpless when it comes to her, I wrote the bundle to help and guide her,” she said.

“I am hoping the bundle can help anyone through their challenges,” she added.

She said thexchild is available on Amazon for $8, which is about R100.
