The woman, who asked to remain anonymous for fear of being targeted, said her son was dropping her off at her home when an Audi “boxed” them in, in her driveway in Jorissen Street.

She said she didn’t have her keys and they had to wait at the gate for someone to open.

She explained this was when two men got out of the car and went to the driver and passenger windows.

One of them remained in the car.

She said the man who targeted the passenger side wore a red cap.

“My son, with his anti-hijacking courses, reversed into their car because he knew they would not take a damaged car,” he said.

She said the Audi now had a damaged passenger door as a result and was easier to identify.

She said after her son reversed, one of the suspects pointed a gun at his head.

“He just said ‘help yourselves’. They never wanted the car, they were after jewellery,” she said.

She said the suspects ripped her necklace from her neck and tore her clothes.

She was left bruised.

She added that they were as vigilant as they could have been.

“They were hoping that we were inside our property. If they had gained access to our property, they would’ve had a field day, and they could’ve done anything they wanted with us,” she suspects.

She said they didn’t have a panic button with them but said she feels there isn’t much one can do in that situation.

“We knew what was happening as they pulled up behind us,” she said.

When the suspects drove off, the woman’s neighbour apparently followed them.

“When my neighbour followed them, one of the men got out of the car and pointed the gun at him. He decided to pass them,” she said.

She urged the community to work together to stop the frequent attacks on drivers in Benoni.

Ekurhuleni Central Cluster police spokesperson Lt Col Mack Mngomezulu said an armed robbery case has been opened.

He said community members must be cautious when driving and look out for cars that might be following them.

Mngomezulu has asked those who can lead the police to the suspects to come forward with information.
