One dies in vacant Rynfield store

An inquest docket has been opened

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a man who died in a vacant shop along Miles Sharp Street yesterday (April 5).

Lt Col Mack Mngomezulu, spokesperson for the police’s Ekurhuleni Central Cluster, said a man called police in the morning notifying them that a man was not breathing in the empty store.

Mngomezulu said paramedics responded and certified the man dead on the scene.

A second man was transported to hospital.

According to a store owner in the area, the two men work for a building contractor.

The pair were apparently supposed to go home after the day’s work but ended sleeping in the shop.

A message on social media suggests the two placed a levelling machine in the shop.

“The fumes from the machine apparently killed the one guy,” the message read.

Mngomezulu said the cause of death is not known at this stage.
