The Litter Bug park and pavement clean-up crew announced the clean-up dates and venues for the rest of the year.

The initiative was started in 2015 by Samantha Choles and Anne Mcleman, residents of Farrarmere, after they spent their 67 minutes for Mandela picking up litter in their neighbourhood.

“We collected a fair number of bags in a short distance,” said Choles.

“We decided to get together on a monthly basis to tackle the parks and pavements closest to us and started inviting others to join us.”

“Our aim is to clean up Farrarmere one park and pavement at a time, while also encouraging people not to litter and to keep the areas around their homes and businesses free of rubbish,” said Mcleman.

Mcleman said their 2018 clean-up dates align with the City of Joburg’s #AReSebetseng (Let’s Work) campaign that hosts clean-ups in the city on the third Saturday of every month.

The group has chosen the third Friday afternoon of every month to pick up litter.

Litter Bugs’ members meet between 2.30pm and 4pm.

People should bring their own gloves and implements.

Bags are supplied, thanks to the Clean-Up SA initiative.
