The man is shaken up.

A Benoni High School (BHS) intern teacher was hit over the head with a gun outside the school’s premises yesterday (March 23).

BHS principal Eugene Rooyakkers said the educator was stationed at the entrance on O’Reilly Merry Street.

He said at about 7.40am an adult male followed a female learner onto the school’s premises.

The intern asked the man to leave.

“The guy came from behind and hit him over the head with a gun,” said Rooyakkers.

The principal said a scuffle ensued and the gunman eventually ran away, without firing a shot.

The intern was shaken up and was not visibly hurt.

Rooyakkers told the City Times that by yesterday afternoon the gate on O’Reilly Merry Street was welded closed.

“If it inconveniences a few, then I am sorry, but I can’t have a wounded or dead educator.”

He said the isolated area attracts undesirables.
