Aspirant beauty queen wants to make a difference to people's lives

Khumi Ngubeni is a semifinalist in the 2018 Tammy Taylor Mrs South Africa competition.

The Stewards resident entered the competition because she felt it shared the same values as hers.

“One day I was looking at myself in the mirror and I said, ‘Hey, and you have three kids and you are still hot’,” she said.

“Yes, I may not be completely flawless.”

Ngubeni said her combination of good genes and eating healthy are what keeps her looking the way she does, although she would like to start exercising more.

The social entrepreneur has a BCom in marketing and describes herself as someone who has a passion for people.

“I’ve always wanted to have a direct impact on people,” she said.

Ngubeni hopes for an opportunity to do just that on this platform.

“There is a lot of work to be done,” she said.

Ngubeni draws her inspiration from how different people are and how they overcome their struggles.

She highlights how being in a different space as a mother and being able to balance that is one of the challenges she faces.

Ngubeni said she would encourage other mothers to enter the competition to feel empowered to achieve their goals.

The 33-year-old said her husband is supportive of her pursuing her dreams.

“I think he is more excited about having a beauty queen for a wife,” she laughs.

Ngubeni has to get sponsors and raise about R20 000 in order to move onto the next round.

The money raised will be donated to the Women for Women organisation.

She hopes to make it to the final stages of the competition.
