Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM) spokesperson Themba Gadebe said the renovations started on February 2 and are expected to be completed on April 30.

Gadebe said the budget allocated for these renovations is R1 058 496.32.

“The scope of the work includes the replacing of the tiles, toilets, ceiling and paintwork internally,” he said.

He said last time the hall was renovated was in 2016 and about R550 000 was spent then.

“The EMM is planning to keep the hall in very good condition all the time by maintaining the facility at least once every three years,” Gadebe added.

Cindy McCall-Peat, the owner of the Eagle Tumbling Club, said she has been using the facility for 36 years.

She said she has seen a lot of things come and go and said the renovation is great.

She also said the bathroom renovations are long overdue and said everything is going to add value to the hall.

“The ceilings have already been done and it looks really snazzy,” she said.

McCall-Peat believes the John Barrable Hall is one of the best sporting facilities on the East Rand.
