SPCA rehabilitates severely neglected pets

The animals were starved.

In a Facebook post that was shared more than 500 times, the Benoni SPCA said it confiscated three dogs and a cat from a house in Putfontein on February 2.

The society stated, “the animals were literally starved of food and were infested with parasites”.

All of the pets have been treated by a veterinarian and are on their way to recovery.

Vicky Finnemore, the society’s manager, said the dogs and cat were in such a bad state that they will be rehabilitated before being put up for adoption.

“They all had tick bite fever called biliary,” she said, but added they look much better.

The owner allegedly claimed he had only taken ownership of the dogs two weeks before they were confiscated.

The SPCA will lay charges of animal cruelty against the owner of these neglected animals.

Finnemore explained that these animals need good quality food because they were malnourished.

She said donations towards their treatment will be greatly appreciated.
