LISTEN: Benoni man takes cover as his bedroom collapses during Wednesday’s storm

The man has retained his sense of humour, despite the horrible ordeal.

A Van Ryn Small Holdings resident is lucky to be alive.

Henry Prinsloo’s bedroom looks like a disaster zone following a massive wind which tore through it last night (February 7).

When the City Times visited the premises this morning, bricks were strewn across the first floor bedroom, ceiling boards had caved in and many of the windows were shattered.

Bricks lie on a table near Henry Prinsloo’s bed.

A large chunk of the plot’s boundary wall had given way and there was further damage to the roof in the kitchen.

Prinsloo, who is 37 years old, was watching a movie in his first floor bedroom when it started to hail.

In a flash, a pillar in the room gave way and fell towards him as he was lying on his bed.

The two sliding door windows also gave way.

Prinsloo, who was in the house with his brother, Herman and mother, Ria, at the time (his family members were downstairs), said his Bible was at the foot of his bed.

The Bible was not damaged.

Prinsloo remains positive and has his sense of humour intact.

“My room was squeaky clean,” he said, referring to its condition before the storm.

“One of my friends asked if my room was hit by a bomb.

“Next time my mom asks me if my room is clean, I can safely say it was hit by a tornado.”

Herman said he is surprised his brother is unscathed.

Two sliding doors were wrecked.
The collapsed ceiling.

“I am glad we made it out alive,” he said.

“I don’t know how anybody could have survived.”

The N12 storage facility, which is a stone’s throw from Prinsloo’s residence, also suffered damage.
