The Rotary Club of Benoni Aurora is again sending an enthusiast teenager to explore the world in the Rotary Youth Exchange programme.
Sixteen-year-old Clarisa Boshoff spoke to the City Times about how she feels about leaving her school, Hoërskool Hans Moore, for Petersburg High School in Alaska.
Petersburg is a small town in the southern part of Alaska in the United States of America.

She said she is participating in the programme because she wants to grow as a person.
“The girls who I have met – who have done long-term exchange – came back as new people. They have so many stories,” she explained.
Boshoff, who lives in Brakpan, will move to Petersburg for 12 months.
When asked what she will miss most about South Africa, she said biltong and South African food.
“It is a whole new lifestyle. My host family only eats gluten-free food, so I’ll have to adapt to that,” she said.
“I do stress about the exchange a little because I have no idea what to expect when I get off the aeroplane.”
She also said she is excited to learn about American culture, eat their food and to have a real American school locker at her new school.
“I also don’t have to wear a school uniform, which is nice,” she said but admitted she’ll have to spend more time in the mornings to decide what to wear.
Boshoff picked Spanish, physical science and life sciences as her subjects in her American school.
“I am very excited to teach Americans Afrikaans,” she said.
When she comes back in 2019, she’ll complete her Grade 10 year.
