Stray puppies had to have tails amputated

They were found abandoned in Mayfield.

On January 26, James Majozi and Bashir Perala walked into the Petit Animal Hospital with two puppies that were in a bad state.

Dr Petro Allison assessed the two dogs and found that both their tales had been tied with wire.

According to Allison, the two men found the two canines on the side of the road near Mayfield Square.

“The dogs came in crying because they were in so much pain,” she said.

Apart from that, Allison said the animals had ticks and flees.

Due to the condition of the tails, Allison had to amputate the puppies’ tails.

The dogs will be kept at the animal hospital for further observation until Sunday, although Allison said they were doing well.

The veterinarian sterilised, vaccinated and treated the animals for free.

Majozi and Perala said they would then take care of the puppies on a permanent basis.

“Rescuing a dog is not going to change the world but it is going to change the world for that dog,” said Allison.

The veterinarian urged people to respect animals and know that they feel pain just as much as humans.
