Brentwood Park resident on an island adventure

He kept it a secret from his family until he was chosen to appear on the show.

Brentwood Park resident Mpande Buthelezi was chosen as one of the contestants in the Tropika Island of Treasure.

The 21-one-year old said he went for auditions in September last year and got a response in November.

“I thought that entering the competition would be a great opportunity to gain exposure because I want to pursue an acting career,” said Buthelezi.

“It would be great to learn about camera angles and learning how to interact with other actors and celebrities.”

The aspiring actor said when he received the call that he had been chosen to be part of the competition, he couldn’t believe it because he was number 420 in the queue.

“It made me feel like God is giving me a shot at my craft,” he said.

Buthelezi said he did not tell his family that he was entering the competition. He only told them when he had been chosen.

“I see myself acting in movies. Acting in soapies would be great training to hone my skill,” he said.

Currently in his final year of completing his drama degree, he hopes to act in a variety of productions on and off the screen.

The Tropika Island of Treasure is a show where celebrities are paired with individuals to complete a set of tasks until there is a winner.

The competition takes place in the Maldives.

It will air on SABC3 in February.
