WATCH: Local choir gives back in Wattville

Learners received new school uniform

The Ekurhuleni Gospel Choir donated school uniforms to Lesabe Primary School in Wattville on January 24.

The choir was formed in 2014.

The choir is assisting needy children in different areas within Ekurhuleni.

Not only do they donate school uniforms to various schools, but they also host events that are focused on the collection of school shoes, such as their Back to School Jazz Festival held on December 9.

“Today we are donating 25 pairs of school shoes as well as school shirts, shorts and socks,” said Sibusiso Motaung, founder of the Ekurhuleni Gospel Choir.

The 16-member choir was joined by the Wattville Jazz Collectors and the Wattville Luncheon Club which also assists with ensuring that needy children in the country are assisted with things they may need.

Themba Madlopha, the principal of Lesabe Primary School, thanked those involved for their efforts.

“You have no idea what a great impact your work has on these children,” said Madlopha.

“You are changing lives. Thank you very much. May you continue to do more in Wattville and South Africa as a whole.”

Apart from assisting with school uniforms, the choir runs a Change Your Life Campaign that works with various companies to obtain bursaries and learnerships for children in Ekurhuleni.

“Every year we keep growing,” said Motaung.

“This year 50 people have been employed in Ekurhuleni through this programme.”

Motaung said the aim is to fulfil the needs of the communities in Ekurhuleni.
