Shop owner shot during robbery

The police appeal to anyone with information to come forward.

A case of business robbery has been opened at the Putfontein SAPS after a robbery at a local business on January 23.

The incident occurred in Mayfield Extension Nine at about 10pm.

Putfontein SAPS spokesperson Const Justice Ramaube said according to a witness, two men were standing in front of the shop pretending to be shouting at a child who wanted to buy something at the shop.

“One of the shop owners went outside to see what was happening, and then suddenly one of the alleged suspects took out a gun,” said Ramaube.

“When he saw the firearm, he ran away.”

Ramaube said whilst the owner was running, he heard gunshots.

“The two men went inside the store and shot his business partner in the leg.”

The robbers took off with an undisclosed amount of money and airtime valued at R2 000.

The owner took his colleague to a nearby clinic.

No arrests have been made.

The police appeal to anyone with information to come forward or contact the Putfontein SAPS on 011 845 6315.
