Illegal land invasion halted

No arrests were made

EMPD officers, traffic wardens and First Responder Unit members halted an attempted land invasion by members of the public in Daveyton on January 22.

The land is situated in Mayfield Extension One.

According to Chief Sup Wilfred Kgasago, EMPD spokesperson, the attempted land grab was stopped and no arrests were made.

“We received information about people erecting shacks,” said Kgasago.

“The metro police officers swiftly organised themselves and proceeded to the location.

“Ten shacks found erected were demolished and all the materials were confiscated and put in storage at the precinct station.”

Kgasago said there was no resistance from the group of land invaders.

No arrests were made.

Kgasago said the EMPD will monitor the area to ensure that no illegal structures are put up on the open land.
