Man given double life sentence for rape and kidnapping of girl (4)

A 37-year-old man was sentenced by Judge Mmonoa Teffo in the Pretoria High Court, to two life sentences for kidnapping and rape.

Fanyana Lucas Motaung Ndlovu kidnapped and raped a four-year-old girl at the Malhebe squatter camp in Putfontein in August 2014.

Ndlovu was sentenced on January 15.

Benoni SAPS spokesperson Capt Nomsa Sekele said the girl and her mother went to visit a family friend at the squatter camp.

“Ndlovu was also at the family friend’s house on the day and he later went out of the house with the child,” said Sekele.

“After a few hours, the mother started noticing that Ndlovu and her daughter had been gone for a while.”

Sekele said the mother started looking for the child, but there was no sign of her or the man.

Ndlovu raped the child and left her in the bushes.

“A woman, who was at a nearby tavern, discovered the child as she was crying in an open veld close to the tavern,” she said.

“The woman took the child to the tavern to ask if anyone knows the child. A neighbour identified the child.

“The child was taken home and she told her mother what happened.”

Sekele said Ndlovu returned to the house drunk.

The family called the police and he was arrested.

The victim was taken to hospital as she sustained serious injuries.

Ndlovu is serving his sentence at Pretoria’s Kgosi Mampuru Prison.
