Cheer Fund low but adoptions high

The Benoni SPCA Cheer Fund officially closed on the amount of R27 579.20 which was about R30 000 less than the previous year.

“Although donations were less, our adoptions were higher than I have ever seen during my time at the SPCA,” said Vicky Finnemore, manager of the Benoni SPCA.

“I think the economy is bad so people could be struggling.”

According to Finnemore, the boarding kennels were fully booked, however, the SPCA had not received as many calls to look after animals over the festive season as they did the previous years.

“I think many people did not go away because of the economy,” Finnemore said.

Although the donations were less in the 2017 Cheer Fund, Finnemore and the SPCA were grateful for the contributions, especially for the adoptions.

“We had 86 adoptions from December 1,” Finnemore said.

Thank you to Burhaan Peerbhai who donated R500 to the SPCA Cheer Fund in honour of Arbor Primary School and the staff.
