“The Integrated Development Planning (IDP) has to complete their current list of priorities before catering for another one,” said Ward 73 Clr Sinethemba Matiwane.

What do you think about the Benoni Town Hall being closed for three years?
The IDP conducts a review annually in September where they look at the progress of the projects they have been tasked to do.
The IDP is divided into several sectors; the sector which oversees the town hall is called Sports Recreational Arts and Culture (SRAC).
“In September this year the IDP will review the list of priorities and if one or more is completed, then they can consider placing the town hall on their list,” Matiwane explained.
The list is comprised by the community at public participation meetings.
“The community gives us their wish list during these meetings and from this a priority list will be created,” Matiwane said.
So far, the IDP needs to complete the following on their list for Ward 73:
• The community hall in Kingsway.
• Traffic lights at the Adam Street (New Modder), McAlpine (Rynsoord) and New Modder Road interchange.
• Rehabilitation of the park on the corner of Mowbray Avenue and Kimbolton Street, Western Extension.
• New roads in Ndlobulele, Inkhentshane, Inkukhu, Fezela streets in Kingsway township.
• Rehabilitation of parks in New Modder and Kingsway along Main Reef and New Modder roads.
“As an item gets completed and is removed from the list, another may be added to the list,” Matiwane said.
An estimated R48-million is needed to refurbish the town hall.
