Cable theft to blame for outage

Today’s power outage in parts of Benoni was due to cable theft.

“Two major cables were stolen and the live were turned off while the cables were being replaced,” confirmed Ward 28 Clr Malanie Haggard, although she could not confirm where the cables were stolen from.
Haggard said she was informed the interruptions will last until 5pm or 6pm on January 8.
She said the affected areas are Lakefield, Farrarmere and Northmead.
She also said “while the cables were being replaced earlier today, the CBD and MacKenzie Park were also out”.
