Benoni schools contribute to Gauteng’s success

Benoni schools contributed to the pass rate of 86 per cent in Gauteng.

Some of these schools were Liverpool Secondary, William Hills High School, Willowmoore High School and Benoni Muslim School.

•Benoni Muslim School

2017 pass rate: 100 per cent

2016 pass rate: 100 per cent

Matric learners: 41

Distinctions: 44

University exemption: 56 per cent

Benoni Muslim School comment: We are happy with the student base, it has been a positive response and we are thankful to the teachers and learners for their efforts.

•William Hills High School

2017 pass rate: 88 per cent

2016 pass rate: 86 per cent

Matric learners: 51

Distinctions: 4

University exemption: 18 per cent

Deputy principal, Sharmala Ramaya’s comment: Given the socio-economic circumstances, the learners did well.

•Liverpool Secondary

2017 pass rate: 94 per cent

2016 pass rate: 91 per cent

Distinctions: 85

University exemption: 47 per cent

Principal Prem Mahraj’s comment: I am not ecstatic about the overall pass rate, but if we factor in the socio-economic background of learners, there is cause to be pleased.

2016 pass rate: 99 per cent

Distinctions: 83

University exemption: 51 per cent
