Showers of love

Northmead Baptist Church wants to shower the homeless with love, not just in the form of food and prayers, but by building two showers for them to use.

“Our church is a church that loves doing work for the community,” said Rev Adrian Nathaniel.

“Recently we have started to feed and clothe the homeless people who sleep around the area.

What started off as a feeding scheme when the homeless attended prayer meetings turned into a bond of family between the church and the homeless.

Nathaniel said the church even helped two homeless people start their own business.

“The church provides means for them to wash their clothes and to wash themselves,” Nathaniel said.

The love for the homeless sparked the idea of providing two showers for them at the church.

The church then began building at the beginning of December.

The showers will be available to any homeless person and will hopefully be opened by early 2018.

However, the church is asking the public for assistance to make this possible.

“We need roofing materials, windows and geysers by January 2018,” Nathaniel said.
