Why buy gifts for friends when you can help strangers?

Every year, residents at Norton Park Retirement Village share the gift of love with each other by buying gifts, but this year they decided to share with those they do not know.

“We each bought non-perishable goods to the value of R30 or R40,” said Joan Whitmill, who formulated the idea.

“We then decided to give these goods to those in need.”

On December 15, the home decided to give the non-perishable goods to Manger Care Centre in Brentwood Park.

“We gave goods like oil, tin foods, sugar, rice, toilet rolls and mealie meal,” Whitmill said.

The residents collected these various items over two months.
