Benoni gives woman fairytale wedding

Nikita (neé Swarts) and Reginald Amery tied the knot on December 7 after Benoni community members sponsored the whole wedding.

The newlyweds were engaged for four years and after many attempts to save for their dream wedding failed, they decided to get married in court.

Charlene Jackson, a member of the Hanna Charity and Empowerment Foundation, quickly took to Facebook to at least give the bride a proper wedding dress.

“Within 24 hours we had the dress, hair and make-up – everything we needed,” she said.

They did, however, also get enough donations to make an actual wedding happen.

Charlene said after these donations flooded in, all they needed was an odd R2 000 for food, which they received shortly after a post on the Benoni Community Network Facebook group.

“We met eight years ago and on Valentine’s Day we would have been engaged for four years,” said Nikita.

Before the wedding, she said she was nervous but excited.

She thanked everyone who contributed to the special day.
