A total of 2 726 cans of food were collected during the project and a donation of R5 000 was received.

Peter van der Heiden, Benoni van Rhyn Lions Club president, said they would like to thank Rebel Food and Veg Atlasville for allowing them to use the store as their drop-off point.

“We also thank our various sponsors and the Lions who gave us their time during the project.”

Van der Heiden added that 15 people will benefit from the project and, with the money donated, they will buy maize meal, rice and sugar which will supplement the food parcels.

Various prizes were also given out during the 10-day period.

During the project, the club ran a competition whereby people got to donate a can of food or money and stood a chance of winning R1 000.

The winner of the competition was Stephan Roodt.
