Teens engaged in apparent underage drinking, drug use in Rynfield told to go home

The Benoni police, along with the Benoni Community Policing Forum (CPF), searched a venue where children were apparently drinking and using drugs, police say.

The police’s Ekurhuleni Central Cluster commander, Maj-Gen Poobalan Subbiah, confirmed police visited the venue on the evening of December 8.

A message circulated on social media said about 350 people were at the venue on Uys Street, in Rynfield Agricultural Holdings.

“Most of the children were between the ages of 12 and 14 years and were being sold alcohol at the bar and were under the influence of either alcohol or drugs,” the message said, which was confirmed by Subbiah.

“The party was immediately stopped and the children were told to contact their parents to come and fetch them [sic].

“While this happened the lights were switched on and the premises were searched and drugs and drug paraphernalia were found throughout the floor of the venue or out the windows by the partygoers [sic].”

The children were let into the care of their parents.

The City Times received unconfirmed information that three 18-year-old boys organised the party.

It is understood that the three boys will do community service.
