Ngwenya received a further 14 years for attempted murder and 15 years for robbery with aggravating circumstances.
Actonville SAPS spokesperson Capt Pheello Mothapo said Ngwenya did not commit these crimes alone.
According to Mothapo, Ngwenya’s accomplice, Sphamandla Dlamini, was apprehended by police a second time, but he died during a shoot-out between the suspect and the police.
“On March 14, 2016, Ngwenya robbed Magsons Shoe Repairs at gunpoint in Actonville,” said Mothapo.
“The duo took an undisclosed amount of cash and cellphones from the victims and shot them several times before running away on foot.”
Magoo was declared dead on scene and his wife, Vera Magoo, was rushed to hospital for medical attention.
Mothapo said following an investigation, the suspects were apprehended, but escaped from a court in Boksburg before appearing for a bail application.
“On October 18, the Ekurhuleni Task Team received information about the suspects’ whereabouts,” Mothapo said.
But only Ngwenya was arrested as Dlamini was killed during his attempt to escape.
