A good attitude never goes unnoticed

Learners in two Benoni schools have won the Toys R Us TRUper competition.

The competition was held to highlight the importance of carrying out good deeds.

Fellow learners and teachers had the opportunity to nominate classmates who they think has good qualities and set a good example for others.

The competition was held in 28 schools across three provinces.

The City Times spoke to three of the influential youngsters.

Theto Matsolo (8) was described by his teachers as “a brave little boy who has preserved through illness and endured pain in life”.

Despite the challenges Theto had to face at such a young age, he is excelling academically and in sports.

“I always stay positive and good things always happen to me,” said Theto.

Cameron Krizek is 13 years old and in Grade Seven.

He said to be positive is just how he is and he said he will always help people who are struggling.

“My teacher is pregnant so I will help her carry stuff when she can’t,” he said.

His advice to his friends who are going through a tough time is to “just be positive and don’t always just think about the negative”.

Another learner, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, said she likes to be friendly to other people and she sees herself as a friendly person.

Her advice to those going through a rough patch in life is to “be happy”.

She also said people shouldn’t always think about the negative and one must have fun with friends and family.

“Smile every day,” she advised.
