One person dies, four others injured in wall collapse

One person died and four others were injured, including a toddler, following the collapse of a wall in Daveyton on November 24.

William Ntladi, media liaison officer for Ekurhuleni emergency services, said response teams were called to the incident on the corner of Turton and Hlakwana streets in the Basothong section in Daveyton.

“The deceased was found underneath the crumpled wall and didn’t respond to the medical treatment given,” Ntladi said.

“She was declared dead on scene by paramedics.

“The other two young female patients, a male and a toddler of about three years of age, were transported by ambulances to Far East Rand Hospital in serious conditions.”

Ntladi said the exact cause of the incident is undetermined, however, information received on scene states that strong wind might be the cause.

Police are investigating.
