Man who grabbed police officer’s gun shot dead

A man has died after being shot by Etwatwa police officers after he allegedly grabbed one of the officers' guns and started shooting at the officers this morning (November 24).

This incident occurred at the Etwatwa Police Station at about 6.30am.

According to Ekurhuleni Central Cluster spokesperson Capt Nomsa Sekele, the man was standing around the station.

“One of the police officers’ went to fetch something from his car and when he was about to move away from the vehicle, the man grabbed the firearm from the officer’s duty belt,” said Sekele.

“The officer shouted for help and the unknown man started shooting randomly at the police.”

He then ran out of the station and police chased after him, added Sekele.

The man was shot in the upper body.

The officers were not injured.
