Fundraiser for woman with misdiagnosed cancer

The event took place at the Kids Era Party Venue on Pretoria Road on November 12.

An amount of R7 300 will go towards Lambrecht’s Carol Kicks Cancer fund.

“We try to help the community any way we can,” said venue owner Robert Stephen, owner of the Kids Era Party Venue.

“We try to accommodate people with a venue whenever we aren’t busy.”

Lambrecht was diagnosed with cervical cancer in 2016.

“I was misdiagnosed throughout the whole of 2016 by my GP, ” said Lambrecht.

“I went to my GP throughout the year with recurring symptoms, which the GP disregarded as harmless conditions.

“The most comical being my recurring cough which he diagnosed as whooping cough.”

Lambrecht said women should go directly to a specialist if they have reason to suspect something that may be beyond the scope of a general practitioner.

The 37-year-old hoped to raise the necessary funds to cover her medical bills.

Lambrecht has already undergone about six chemotherapy and radiation treatments, but says the cancer has spread from her lungs to her abdomen.

The Northmead resident is a wife and a mother of two boys.

“My concern is not dying, but rather the fact that my children will not have a mother,” she said.

To keep healthy, she teaches yoga from home and tries to eat healthy food.

“Our family is still a long way from being financially secure, but at least we have money for food and fuel and maybe some vitamins to boost my immune system now, so I can fight this thing,” she said.

The fundraising market saw about 35 stallholders selling items such as food, arts and craft and clothing.

Lambrecht hopes to makes this a monthly event in order to keep up with the ongoing costs of her treatment.
