Deadline for gated community proposals

Time is running out for residents to submit proposals for the establishment of gated communities to the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM).

Submissions close on November 25, with the EMM agreeing to consider all proposals following a flood of requests to restrict access to public roads in various parts of the metro.

“It has also been noted that some roads within the city are illegally closed and use extreme measures that also deny emergency services and the police entry,” said EMM spokesperson Themba Gadebe.

Proposals from all stakeholders should consider:

• Methods that can be implemented without infringing the public’s right to freedom of movement but equally ensuring the safety and security of residents.

• Different ways to promote mobility, integration, social inclusiveness and township functionality.

• Reducing unnecessary long travelling distances caused by road closures.

Proposals and presentations should be made in writing and emailed to Dora.Mogale@ekurhuleni.gov.za and mkncivil@polka.co.za, posted to the City Planning Department, PO Box 13, Kempton Park, 1620, or hand-delivered to any customer care centre across Ekurhuleni.

A public participation process regarding the establishment of gated communities will be held on Thursday (November 23) at Germiston City Hall from 9am to 3pm.
