#knowyourbenoni – Young professional aspires to be a media mogul

Kati Dijane aspires to be a media mogul one day.

Her passion for writing and inspiring young professionals in South Africa is guiding her new blog, KDanielles Media.

She is determined to persuade all South Africans that they can pursue their passions and use their talents to contribute to their society in a meaningful way.

BCT: Tell us a bit about life growing up.

KD: I was born in Katlehong, which is a township east of Johannesburg.

When I was about four or five years old I moved to my grandmother’s house in Daveyton.

I spent most of my life in Daveyton.

BCT: Where did you attend school and university?

KD: I attended Crystal Park Primary and Willowmoore High schools.

I graduated from Damelin with a media studies (major in journalism) qualification.

My course focused on broadcast and print media but I knew I was more interested in writing.

I did a few internships during holidays which taught me so much about print media

BCT: Why do you prefer writing to broadcast?

KD: I was always a very reserved person.

I love to read and, as a child, I had a hobby of making my own mini-magazines.

I used to pretend to be an editor by cutting out pictures and stories and pasting it into a mini-magazine.

I was also inspired by Khanyi Dhlomo, who used to be the editor of True Love.

My sister used to buy the magazine and Khanyi was young when she worked as the editor. I just thought, “If she can do it, so can I”.

BCT: Tell us about your blog.

KD: It is an inspirational blog focusing on young professionals in South Africa.

I post content that young people, and many South Africans, can relate to, such as the challenges of being a professional and how to be successful.

BCT: What advice do you have for professionals in South Africa?

KD: To never give up on your dreams.

You have a talent and you should take initiative to use that talent to contribute to society.

You never know who is watching and that is why you should work towards your dreams.

It doesn’t matter if people don’t believe in you, as long as you believe in yourself.

BCT: What are your plans for the future?

KD: My blog is the foundation of my dream.

I would like to expand the brand to a public relations division and do content curation for young professionals, not only to help them reach their dreams but to help them look professional and be taken seriously.
