Dogs confiscated post possible dog fighting

Five pit bulls were confiscated from a property in Etwatwa on Thursday morning following suspected dog fighting.

“The SPCA was contacted by the EMPD Swat Team, who suspected dog fighting on the premises,” said SPCA training inspector Chantal Keith.

“Upon arrival, we found the five dogs either caged or chained using a short chain.”

According to Keith, two of the dogs have cropped ears, one has broken teeth and one has bite wounds on its body.

“The dogs will remain in our custody and all will receive veterinary treatment,” Keith said.

Etwatwa SAPS spokesperson Capt Ramothakhi Maqabe said a case of cruelty to animals was opened at the station.

“The man arrested could not provide evidence that he owned the property either, so he was also charged for being in possession of stolen property,” Maqabe said.
