This comes after the Benoni Community Group shared a screenshot of a WhatsApp message from a mother who warned parents to be vigilant after her child was apparently almost snatched at a shopping centre in Farrarmere.
The incident occurred on November 13.
The post alleges that three men attempted to snatch the child from a shopping trolley.
“They allegedly took pictures of the woman’s car registration and tried to take a picture of the child,” the post stated.
“The three men drove a red Citi Golf.”
Capt Nomsa Sekele, Benoni SAPS spokesperson, said on November 15 that no case had been opened about the apparent incident.
Sekele shared some tips for people to consider to minimise chances of a child being kidnapped.
• When shopping with your child or children always make sure you don’t lose sight of them.
• If you lose sight of your child, alert security officers at the mall immediately.
• Always accompany your child to the restroom.
• Teach your children not to talk to strangers.
Sekele urges community members to open cases, even if it seems unnecessary.
