Rotary provides water transport solution to village

The Rotary Club of Benoni Van Ryn, under project leader Robin Bath, collaborated with Bela-Bela Rotary clubs and Hippo Roller manufacturers to provide a rural community an easier way to transport water.

The Gibsons Rotary Club in Canada provided funding for the project.

Bela-Bela Rotary identified the needy village and the project took about two years to complete.

The village is called Vingerkraal and is located about 40km west of Bela-Bela.

The Rotary District 9400 governor did the official honours by handing over a certificate commemorating the event to members of the community.

The list of donors for the project is listed on the certificate.

On October 23, 148 Hippo Rollers were delivered, enough for every two households to share one roller.

The rollers can move 90 litres of water with little effort, as opposed to carrying 20 litres in a bucket.
