Man stabbed in Western Extension, robbed of R800

A 33-year-old pedestrian was stabbed in Western Extension on October 27.

The victim, who did not want to be named for fear of being targeted again, said he was en route to his Bright Street home from the Benoni CBD at about 8pm.

While walking on Kempston Avenue, he walked past two men who greeted him.

Before long, he heard the same men behind him.

The victim said he was a few steps into dashing away when they grabbed his arms.

Speaking from his home with his left hand holding the right-hand side of his chest, he said one of the men jabbed a knife into him.

“I told them to take whatever they wanted,” he said.

The assailants stole about R800 in cash and a cellphone.

The father of two stumbled to a local pub and restaurant, which had a Halloween-themed evening.

The patrons assisted by calling paramedics who transported him to hospital.

The victim was discharged from hospital on November 2.

He is yet to open a case.

At the time of publishing, Benoni police did not say whether there were other recent cases of street stabbings or robberies in Western Extension.
