A recent appeal by the club in the City Times led to 140 spectacles and sunglasses being donated.
Some of the sunglasses were donated to car guards at the Northmead Mall.
The club’s Beaulieu Maré said car guards are at high risk of developing cataracts, due to the sunny conditions they work in.
“The donation helps us a lot because we work in the sun the whole day,” said Richard Mashego, a guard at the Northmead Mall.
“I thank the Lions for what they are doing for us.”
The spectacles that are donated are recycled, fitted with prescription lenses and are provided at a reduced fee to needy community members through Operation Brightsight.
Donations for the Lions can be dropped off at the Benoni City Times office in the Northmead Square.
