Possible house break-in suspects arrested in Northmead

Two men, aged 24 and 25, were arrested for being in possession of house break-in implements near the Northmead Railway Station this morning (November 2) at about 3.30am.

The arrest was made by the Takkie Team, led by Capt Imber Groesbeek and sector managers WO Jaco Myburgh and Sgt Vernon Alladipan, during a crime prevention operation in the area.

Benoni SAPS spokesperson Capt Nomsa Sekele said when the two men saw the officers they tried to run away.

Police confiscated two radios and mobile devices.

Sekele said investigations will be conducted to establish if the two men are linked to cases of house break-ins reported recently in Northmead, Farrarmere, Rynfield and Morehill.

The suspects are due to appear in the Benoni Magistrate’s Court soon.
