Two meetings scheduled to resolve controversy around mine dump projects

A follow-up public participation meeting for the Vlakfontein mine dump reclamation project will be held on November 7 at 10am at the Benoni Country Club.

The previous meeting on September 23, also at 10 am, was postponed after a community member said important stakeholders were not present and said the company, Thumela Logistix CC is at fault for hosting the meeting in business hours.

The Greater Benoni Residents’ Committee (GBRC) planned a follow-up meeting for the public participation meeting on November 7.

The committee was founded in 2004 in order to protect the interests of Benoni residents in relation to mining applications.

The GBRC is looking to engage with the community to discuss the way forward on November 9 at 6.30pm.

This meeting will be held in the council chamber, Benoni Municipal Building.

Ward 27 Clr Jacques Meiring will serve as chairperson for the meeting.
