A small victory for charity

Entering the Mr Gauteng Pre-teen competition for the first time, Levi Bennett, won the title for 2017/2018.

The nine-year-old competed in the competition on October 14 at Carnival City.

“I was very happy. I just asked them not to give me a princess crown,” the Northmead resident said.

Bennett said judges asked him about his family and why he entered the competition.

“I really want to help poor people and charities,” he said.

Bennett said he was nervous about competing in the competition.

“My friends told me not to be nervous and that calmed me down.”

When he heard that he won, he was more surprised than happy because he thought he’d never win.

The youngster looks forward to entering more competitions and making more friends.

According to his mother, Jenna-Lee Bennett, one of the organisers saw Levi’s picture on Facebook and asked him to enter.

“I entered him in the competition to boost his confidence and self-esteem,” she said.

“I’m proud and honoured to be his mom.”

The duties that Bennett is required to do is to attend charity functions and create awareness around charity and helping the needy.
