#knowyourbenoni – Adele simply loves Benoni

Adele Steyn has lived in Benoni her whole life.

She is married to André Steyn.

Her son, Harley Steyn, is a cricket player and deputy head boy at Hoërskool Hans Moore.

Steyn told the City Times how she earned her place as a well-known member of the Benoni community while still prioritising her family.

BCT: Where did you grow up?

AS: I was born in what is known as Life the Glynnwood Hospital.

I grew up in Kirschner Road in the agricultural holdings, attended Laerskool Rynfield and matriculated in 1991 from Hoërskool Brandwag.

BCT: Tell us why you value Benoni so much.

AS: Most of my memories are here and that is why I’ll never move.

I know that if I am in trouble, like getting a flat tyre for example, at least 20 people will come to help me if I phone them.

If you are a decent person and you help others, people from Benoni will definitely help you if you need them.

BCT: What do you think made you so well-known in the community?

AS: I am a good networker and I attend a lot of events for work and my photography, so I use these events to network.

I also work with a lot of different personalities, so I have learnt to be a good judge of character and I adapt to different personalities.

I observe and evaluate people’s offices, for example, and I usually get a good sense of their interests and personality.

Just by doing this, I am able to effectively communicate with almost everyone.

I am never rude to people because every single human being can potentially be a future client or necessary contact.

BCT: What is important to you in Benoni?

AS: My passion is children’s homes.

I live close to six children’s homes.

People don’t know how these children struggle and how the caregivers struggle to take care of them.

I use my contacts and my network to help children’s homes.

I always wonder what would happen if I could find a few people willing to donate a fixed amount every month.

But for now, I ask everyone I know to help out should Charisma, one of the homes I support, need supplies or groceries.

BCT: What would you like to make your famous last words?

AS: Invest in our children, because they really are the future.
